10-Yard Fight is an arcade game developed by studio Irem back during the very same year the video games industry crashed (thanks, E.T.). As a game catering to football fanatics, 10-Yard Fight a sports game played from a top-down perspective. The gameplay is simple, tasking players to choose between offensive or defensive play. Depending on which you choose, you then have various sub-options during each play while the AI controls the other players. Difficulty escalates as you progress, corresponding to the various leagues of football play. Because of this, 10-Yard Fight provides one of the earliest examples of a sports game campaign mode. Despite its arcade origins, the game was eventually ported to the NES.
