1942 is an arcade shooter, and one of the first games put out by Japan giant Capcom. As the name implies, the game goes for a historical edge by placing its setting in 1942 during the Pacific War of World War II, shortly following Japan's bombing of Pearl Harbor. Ironically, the game's goal is to destroy the Japanese air fleet in Tokyo, Japan. Played from a vertical perspective, 1942 has players collect powerups that give you increasing aerial power in your fight against the Japanese. To keep historically accurate, the enemy planes are based on real ones used by the Japanese during WWII. As with most arcade-originated games of the era, 1942 was eventually ported to the NES, as well as a variety of other platforms.
