As you may guess from the name, 1943 is the sequel to Capcom's early arcade shooter '1942'. The game is based on the real-life Battle of Midway, which took place in the year '42 rather than '43. As a sequel, 1943 saw several new additions over its predecessor. Boasting 16 different levels, the challenge ramped up even further with this entry in the series, requiring players to carefully monitor a rapidly depleting fuel gauge. The game cleverly uses this mechanic to its advantage with two-player co-op, allowing two players to swap their fuel gauge when it gets low. Despite its origins in the 80's arcades, 1943 was eventually ported to a huge variety of platforms.
