Breakout is an action arcade game that eventually got ported to the Atari 2600. The name is fitting, as its gameplay went on to inspire dozens of other similar games, notably including Arkanoid. The game has players controlling a horizontal paddle while a ball bounces around the screen. You have to hit the ball with the paddle and break down layers of colorful bricks on the top of the screen. If the ball flies past the paddle, it's game over. The game started out in the arcades from the early days and took inspiration from 1972's Pong. One of Breakout's chief designers, Steve Wozniak, went on to co-found Apple with Steve Jobs.
